Guthrie Govan 1971,12.27生於英國艾賽克斯
他3歲就開始彈吉他
雖然剛開始是爸爸教他
後來就靠自己邊聽邊學

就讀牛津大學時主修英國文學
但剩下一年學業因為追求音樂夢想沒完成
之後他把Demo寄給 Shrapnel Records的Mike Varney(80年代速彈吉他手,幾乎都是這家唱片公司出的)
Mike Varney答應幫他出一張唱片
但是後來沒有出成功
原因據GUTHRIE GOVAN表示,他只是想證明自己的能力是不是夠格出唱片

1993 他以創作曲Wonderful Slippery Thing贏得Guitarist 雜誌年度吉他手比賽
